We are getting closer to this now and present day as this third chapter of my ‘Lobster Tale‘ will unfold. Hi, my name is Marge, and I am sharing with you what is cooking in our lives. Thanks to Haagje, my friend, who helped me create all the main characters in this story and their houses and thanks to AnoeskaB for her farm house!
The moon is rising. I am still at work and the kids are cleaning up the garden after the wedding party we had the other day. The Wedding…. My daughter married Chester Field V! The Field heir lives with us now, in our old farm.
Chester… He is a wonderful kid. Well… I should stop calling him a kid. He will most probably be the father of my first grandchild.
On my way home now… Ahhh… It just occurred to me I haven‘t introduced you to my daughter yet! Silly me! I had a little ‘senior‘ moment there…. *chuckle*
Jules… My precious jewel. Now Mrs. Chester Field V.
Ever since she was a little girl she was collecting seeds, planting them and growing them into the most amazing greens. Jules practically lived outside.
Today Jules has grown the perfect garden, with all plants possible. She can even bring back the dead ones to life! With Jules‘ green thumb and fishing skill and my cooking we made ourselves a good running business.
… On with the story! Our farm was on the road next to the Field Mansion and a rundown place when Pete and I, newlyweds, bought it. So different it looks now. A lot of time, and above all, a lot of love went into the farmhouse and the garden.
We never met the Fields before. But we would after Pete had passed away and Jules went to High school. Instead of taking the bus, Jules walked home from school now and then and crossing the field she would pass the Field estate.
One day I had asked her to go into town to pick something up from the store.
She ran into Chester… Oh Chester, shy, sweet Chester… Somehow they talked the night away until it was really time to go home before the police would find them out so late!
She was the first one of our family to enter the Field Estate and spent a lot of time with her new friend, Chester Field V.
There was now something else on my daughter‘s mind but greens and trees. It had something to do with this certain boy ‘Chester‘. Could it be love?
Chester was to go to University. His dad wanted him to become a Botanist, and that had everything to do with his dead grandparents he told her. Chester wanted to be a scientist. He didn‘t have the green thumb he said.
Jules didn‘t understand how he could not want to be a botanist. Nevertheless, she was very much in love with Chester and they kissed in our back yard for the first time.
I think it was not fair Chester‘s father would make him study something he really didn‘t want to do. What was it with that family?
From the time he was still a baby, Chester knew his dad‘s mind was made up about gardening. Chester III made him promise to grow the perfect ingredients for that most precious dish, Ambrosia. That would be his gift to his beloved Lauren. He had not been able to achieve that while he was still alive and now he needed his sons to help him.
Dead Chester would visit almost every night. Make sure the boys were alright and also to see if they were working on their gardening skills. He did not see much movement in the garden though.
The only thing moving in the garden was his grandson playing… Chester V was a happy fellow.
But the Field boys had to work and earn a living and Chester‘s daddy was cross with his brother Randolph one night because he didn‘t make anything different than salad. Randolph had stopped using the stove ever since there had been a fire at his girlfriends house.
He promised her to never use a stove again…, they could eat salads right? Or just order in pizzas.
Chester III was getting a little impatient and had to talk to his sons about the importance of it all.
After that Randolph went back to the kitchen and had a lot of explaining to do to his girlfriend. He also had a lot of catching up to do. My… they were getting older. How were they to get it all right in time for their parents?
“Now you see my son, I want you to learn everything there is to learn about vegetables and fruit trees. Therefore I want you to go to University and master the gardening skill!”
“But Chester…” Jules soothed, “Let me help! With my green thumb, my mom‘s cooking and your intelligence and money, we can work something out… can‘t we?”
The kids were still in high school, there was no talking about marriage at the time. They were still so young. But Jules had made plans for the future that would have a great effect on us all.
Time passed and Grandpa Chester still didn‘t see much growing in their garden. Being a surgeon made it hard for Daddy Chester to find the extra time to do the gardening. He told his dead father his hopes were set on young Chester. Father just had to wait longer.
That was enough for Lauren to rise from her grave. She felt she had to step in and protect her children and now also her grandson. Her husband might have thought he was back in control, but he was dead… and he should stop putting so much weight on everybody‘s shoulders.
She told Chester he should come back to the grave with her and leave his sons alone. Chester and she had all the time in the world! No need to rush the kids into something and leave them behind miserable because they could not live up to his expectations.
Lauren then talked to her grandson. He should not worry about a promise his father had made. She knew the recipe very well. Ambrosia! It was not all about gardening! There was much more about Ambrosia. It slowly dawned on Chester that he would not be set free from this task. The idea of that dish would be there to follow him everywhere in his life from now on.
To be continued…
