Hello everyone. Welcome to another Ghostly tale. For all of you who were so kind to ask for another one of Affera stories. I am honored.
*****
I could hear them downstairs. Even though I met just one of them. I knew there were others. I am very afraid of them still. I really don’t want to go downstairs.
I waited till it got quite before I went down there. They don’t care much for dawn. They tend to leave just before the sun comes up.
I didn’t wait quite long enough. At the foot of the stairs I ran into the mist.
Such a creepy mist. I couldn’t help but wonder who this one is or used to be.
I need a roommate or house mate is more like it. This house is just to big and spooky for me to be alone in. I searched the ads in the morning news. There was only two in today’s paper. One was a Police Officer and the other Bookkeeper. Hummmm a police officer, now that would good. Brave and a protector. Yes I liked that idea.
It seemed like more and more of them came. Like my 3rd cousin, something other whatever, was calling them here.
Not sleeping well at night I called the ad I saw in yesterday’s paper. He said his name is Charles VanBarron and yes he was still looking for a house mate.
We agreed to meet at the towns Bistro. I wanted to interview him and get a feel for him before I invite some strange person to share my home.
“At 8pm, yes that will be fine.”
I waited for 2 hours. I had given up and was leaving when I saw a police car drive up. It had to be Charles.
He got out of his car. He introduced himself and apologized for being late. I couldn’t be too mad, maybe he had an emergency or something.
It was a bit awkward. The Bistro was closing. He offered to drive me to the diner in town.
The rest of our meeting went well. He bought my dinner. Now it was late I need to get home. I told him to please come by the house tomorrow and I can show you around.
I lived just around the corner from the diner. I saw one the way home. I walked a little faster. I was almost home.
Walking through the graveyard to get to my house. I just couldn’t understand why anyone would build a house behind a graveyard.
It happened so fast I didn’t see her. My god she went right through me. There are not enough words to explain how that felt. She was filled with such sorrow. She must of drowned like my cousin Rhett did.
The next day Charles arrived. Oh thank goodness.
I greeted him and invited him in. “Please do come in.”
We sat in the living room. I began to explain why I wanted a house mate. At first I was afraid to tell him about the ghosts. I didn’t want to scare him off.
I showed him around the downstairs. I told him then about the ghosts. Hoping that it would not scare him away.
To my relief he still wanted to move in. He would move in on the coming weekend. He said he had always wanted to see a ghost. “Well you came to the right place.” He said “Ok then I will see you on Friday.” I can’t tell you how happy that made me. I felt better already.
I hugged him goodbye. Wow I kinda liked that. How long had it been since I hugged a man.
I was out shopping that Friday morning and when I returned. I saw boxes by the front door. Those must belong to Charles.
Charles walked up just then. He said “I see my crates arrived. Oh and please call me Charlie”. I responded “Well then Charlie, I am glad you are here.” I handed him his house key. “Please go in and pick your room. There are several you can choose from”.
He chose one on the third floor. I think he liked it. It did not take long for him to get some of his stuff out.
Back in the living room we sat and talked about the ghost. He suggested that we sit in the graveyard at night and watch for them.
I did not like that at all, but it was the only way to find out what was troubling them. I had to if we were going to be able to help them.
We waited. When midnight approached so did the ghosts.
First there was one. Then another.
And another. That was all I could take. I was very afraid. So scared I felt myself become surrounded by darkness.
When I came to. I saw Charlie talking to them. Ok, well maybe I could gain some strength just by knowing Charlie was there with me.
After a while we had them all around us. They are so tired. All they really wanted was to sleep. Sleep like they did when they were alive. We talked and learned more about them. Who they are or who they used to be, and what it was we could do for them to help them find peace. Rhett had told them all that I would be able to help them. I only hope he was right.
To be continued…
