Lobster Thermidor & Autumn Salad – part 4

Banner Lobster 3

Welcome back my dear, dear readers! In this chapter its all about ghosts and weddings and stuff. Chester met his dead grandmother Lauren. Chester, my sweet son in law to be… he grew up. And so did Jules.

Chester was determined to get everything his grandmother said was needed for the Ambrosia dish. He was now a young adult and engaged to Jules.

We all worked in the garden and planted life fruit, which we finally found in a small grocery shop run by an Egyptian guy.

Chester and Jules would make the dream of Chesters grandparents come true. Their pond was full of the desired death fish and finally, in a blue moon, the life plant came to bloom.

Meanwhile I hired a new kitchen help…. Youve guessed right Randolph Field now worked for me.

I was going through some recipes. Just two more days till the wedding and the kids asked me to do some really nice Hors d’oeuvres.

Chester went over to his parents house. The Field Residence of course, and told his dad he was going to marry his true love, Jules. Dad was very pleased and told him he wouldnt want to miss that day for the world!

Who wouldve thought that in that very same night Chester Field IV plea bargained with Grim to at least have him attend his sons wedding…. Grim said NO. Grim said it was his time.

Jules asked me what special dishes I had come up with for the wedding. It would be a small ceremony with just some close friends and family. We were not aware of the drama that took place at the Field Residence.

My plumb bob told me there was something going on. And a minute later I got a phone call from Khadia, telling me the awful news. She wanted to come over right away.

I told them to take all the time they needed and Khadia insisted her son and Jules should commence with the wedding. It would be alrightDaddy had not wanted it any other way.

So the next day the wedding took place. They were very happy, my child, all grown up now. Chester was happy. But he was also sad. His dad But his uncles and cousins and brother…. his mom…, everyone came. They would have time to grieve. All the time they needed. Or so I thought.

If Chester wasnt already determined to get his grandparents back in his life, he certainly was now. He would now also do the same thing for his dad. Could he? Reading about it and hearing it from others reading forums on the internet was one thing. He just wasnt sure if it would work in real life.

The guests all left and then Lauren was there. I had never seen a ghost in my life! Not even Pete. Lauren introduced herself and I was instantly very fond of her. What a grand lady!

That night Lauren told me about their plan, and I was all excited about it. We talked about the Ambrosia recipe, and YESI knew all about it. I could do it! Lauren just had to tell me when and where. She asked me just ONE thing…. Could they all be buried here… in my garden?

We had the Field family over. That meanstheir remains. They had to settle in and all was quiet on the ghost front for a while.

And Chester had time to mourn his dead dad.

Lauren startled me when out of the blue she was back. She loved our garden, she said, and now would be a perfect time to go ahead and make the mise en place for Ambrosia.

The ghosts, Chester III and Chester IV and Lauren felt at home at our place. For a whole week they came out every single night to talk to me.

Chester and Jules, still in their honeymoon, were not aware of these nightly visits, until one night, dad woke Chester up.

You have a fine family now, my son and a lovely, lovely garden. I am so very proud of you!”

Half an hour later Chesters grandparents showed up. Lauren told him that very soon a miracle would take place.

Jules was impressed by Chesters story. Yes! A miracle would certainly happen! She told her husband she was pregnant!

We were all thrilled! A new member to the family! I was going to be a grandmother!

Chester told Jules there was also another miracle bound to take place. The one they had been working on now for a decade.

We needed some more life fruit if we were going to wake up more dead people. So we had to wait a couple more months to harvest again. Lauren was taken away with Jules and the two women talked about gardening on many occasions.

*****

The pregnancy went on just perfect! Jules went to have her checkups and read all about there was to read about having babies. The ghosts still visited every night…. Full of anticipation of a new life to arrive.

Jules gave birth to a little Field girl. Juliette certainly was the most pretty baby in the world!

Its time for your nap now little one…, mommy has to help grandma to prepare for a miracle dinner. We have very special guests coming over tonight.”

It was time. Time to prepare Ambrosia. It was somehow a sacred mission. Would it work? It would be a late dinner. I have to prepare give me some time. Ill be back soon with the next chapter.

Lobster Thermidor & Autumn Salad – part 3

Banner Lobster 3We are getting closer to this now and present day as this third chapter of my Lobster Tale will unfold. Hi, my name is Marge, and I am sharing with you what is cooking in our lives. Thanks to Haagje, my friend, who helped me create all the main characters in this story and their houses and thanks to AnoeskaB for her farm house!

The moon is rising. I am still at work and the kids are cleaning up the garden after the wedding party we had the other day. The Wedding…. My daughter married Chester Field V! The Field heir lives with us now, in our old farm.

Chester He is a wonderful kid. WellI should stop calling him a kid. He will most probably be the father of my first grandchild.

On my way home now Ahhh It just occurred to me I havent introduced you to my daughter yet! Silly me! I had a little senior moment there…. *chuckle*

Jules My precious jewel. Now Mrs. Chester Field V.

Ever since she was a little girl she was collecting seeds, planting them and growing them into the most amazing greens. Jules practically lived outside.

Today Jules has grown the perfect garden, with all plants possible. She can even bring back the dead ones to life! With Jules green thumb and fishing skill and my cooking we made ourselves a good running business.

On with the story! Our farm was on the road next to the Field Mansion and a rundown place when Pete and I, newlyweds, bought it. So different it looks now. A lot of time, and above all, a lot of love went into the farmhouse and the garden.

We never met the Fields before. But we would after Pete had passed away and Jules went to High school. Instead of taking the bus, Jules walked home from school now and then and crossing the field she would pass the Field estate.

One day I had asked her to go into town to pick something up from the store.

She ran into Chester Oh Chester, shy, sweet Chester Somehow they talked the night away until it was really time to go home before the police would find them out so late!

She was the first one of our family to enter the Field Estate and spent a lot of time with her new friend, Chester Field V.

There was now something else on my daughters mind but greens and trees. It had something to do with this certain boy ‘Chester‘. Could it be love?

Chester was to go to University. His dad wanted him to become a Botanist, and that had everything to do with his dead grandparents he told her. Chester wanted to be a scientist. He didnt have the green thumb he said.

Jules didnt understand how he could not want to be a botanist. Nevertheless, she was very much in love with Chester and they kissed in our back yard for the first time.

I think it was not fair Chesters father would make him study something he really didnt want to do. What was it with that family?

From the time he was still a baby, Chester knew his dads mind was made up about gardening. Chester III made him promise to grow the perfect ingredients for that most precious dish, Ambrosia. That would be his gift to his beloved Lauren. He had not been able to achieve that while he was still alive and now he needed his sons to help him.

Dead Chester would visit almost every night. Make sure the boys were alright and also to see if they were working on their gardening skills. He did not see much movement in the garden though.

The only thing moving in the garden was his grandson playing Chester V was a happy fellow.

But the Field boys had to work and earn a living and Chesters daddy was cross with his brother Randolph one night because he didnt make anything different than salad. Randolph had stopped using the stove ever since there had been a fire at his girlfriends house.

He promised her to never use a stove again…, they could eat salads right? Or just order in pizzas.

Chester III was getting a little impatient and had to talk to his sons about the importance of it all.

After that Randolph went back to the kitchen and had a lot of explaining to do to his girlfriend. He also had a lot of catching up to do. My they were getting older. How were they to get it all right in time for their parents?

chess“Now you see my son, I want you to learn everything there is to learn about vegetables and fruit trees. Therefore I want you to go to University and master the gardening skill!”

But Chester…” Jules soothed, Let me help! With my green thumb, my moms cooking and your intelligence and money, we can work something out cant we?”

The kids were still in high school, there was no talking about marriage at the time. They were still so young. But Jules had made plans for the future that would have a great effect on us all.

Time passed and Grandpa Chester still didnt see much growing in their garden. Being a surgeon made it hard for Daddy Chester to find the extra time to do the gardening. He told his dead father his hopes were set on young Chester. Father just had to wait longer.

That was enough for Lauren to rise from her grave. She felt she had to step in and protect her children and now also her grandson. Her husband might have thought he was back in control, but he was dead and he should stop putting so much weight on everybodys shoulders.

She told Chester he should come back to the grave with her and leave his sons alone. Chester and she had all the time in the world! No need to rush the kids into something and leave them behind miserable because they could not live up to his expectations.

Lauren then talked to her grandson. He should not worry about a promise his father had made. She knew the recipe very well. Ambrosia! It was not all about gardening! There was much more about Ambrosia. It slowly dawned on Chester that he would not be set free from this task. The idea of that dish would be there to follow him everywhere in his life from now on.
